There is no alternative to moral education in preventing youth degeneration
Yasin Arafat, the Central President of Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir said that the youth in the country have fallen victim to fearsome moral degradation, due to which the nation has been witnessing gruesome incidents one after the other. The main reason behind this is the spread of immorality. The education system needs to be reformed to include moral education in preventing the fearsome degeneration of youth.
He said this at a reception program for SSC and Dakhil students who attained GPA 5 at an auditorium in Comilla organised by Comilla Division South unit of Shibir, where he was the chief guest.
The Shibir President said, there is no lack of able citizens in the country, and there are requisite number of individuals at each level to run the country. However, there is strong corruption at every level of the state. Even though education is the backbone of the nation, the presence of a problematic and contested system leads to regular questions regarding the quality of the system. The Islamic aspects of education was cleverly limited, and and the religious issues were abandoned, which was an instrumental step in creating an immoral generation. Moreover, the effects of such a system lacking in morality can be seen, since gruesome crime incidents are occurring almost every day in the country. Even children and old people are being subject to rape in Bangladesh today. Children using drugs are setting the knife at their mother’s necks. People are being burnt alive and even young teens are becoming aggressive and fearsome. Youth are becoming fearsome killers at a young age. The rich of the society are using women as commodities, a worst example of which can be seen to be the recent incident of rape at Raintree hotel in Dhaka., where the father himself has in fact proudly supported his rapist son! This is indeed a fearful view of events. These are prevalent due to the immorality in the individual, society and state level. And this immorality is due to the flaw in the education system. Merit without morals can earn a person success in life, but it does not benefit the society at all, becoming an obstacle instead.
He further said, it is true that the path towards becoming a good person is not easy. But we believe that those who study so hard to get good results, also have in them the ability to break the net of immorality. What is only needed is the decision to go forward and build one’s self regardless. Chhatra Shibir has been able to create a group of citizens free from the clutches of drugs, immorality and extremist ideologies, despite facing many hurdles on its path, which has been possible due to attachment with the Qur’an and following its guidelines in the lives of the students. We will continue such efforts insha Allah. Chhatra Shibir strives to stay alongside meritorious students and help them grow up to be responsible elements of the state and society, and not grow up as bad examples. We hope that the meritorious students of today will join in this noble mission of Chhatra Shibir and help it achieve its aims and goals in this regard.
