Oppressed Shibir President Bleeding in the Heart of the Students
Students are the future architect of society and civilization. The good and bad of society and state depend on students’ achievement of ideological beauty, patriotism and humanity. Society has more expectations to the ideal, morally strong and patriotic students. It is not easy to dedicate oneself for the society, nor is it painless to implement any sky-high everlasting ideals. As an organization, Bangladesh Islami Chhatrashibir started its journey in 1977 with the purpose of creating patriotic, honest and qualified leaders and citizens. Since then, this organization is playing significant role in shaping the characters of the students and building a society free from terrorism and narcotics.
But the irresistible advancement of Shibir was never endurable to the unpatriotic sinister forces. They have never hesitated to take any evil means to thwart the advancement of Chhatrashibir. Since its beginning, Bangladesh Islami Chhatrashibir is undergoing endless oppression, murder, media terrorism, state-sponsored terrorism, and media aggression. No other organization of Bangladesh has suffered state-terrorism and media aggression to such an extent.
In every calamities and disasters, Bangladesh Islami Chhatrashibir has played pioneering role. It has protested against abuse of power and inconsiderate and fascist rule. As a result, Chhatrashibir was always the eye-sore for the power-greedy rulers who have used tyrannical state-power against them. The present Awami government has turned our alma maters into the sanctuaries of terrorists. Whenever Chhatrashibir protested against these, the government has fallen on them with oppressive state power. They have lost many of their leaders and workers at the attack of Chhatra League or police or other government agencies. After the killing of Chhatra League worker Faruk in infighting, the government launched countrywide combing drive against Chhatrashibir. At that time, countless students were arrested, who were kept behind the bar month after month and year after year.
Chhatra League has emerged as the most ferocious terrorist organization. It has created reign of terror in every campus of Bangladesh. There is no crime which the leaders and workers of Chhatra League are not committing. Murder, extortion and tendering have become their regular works. Many innocent students, even their own members have been killed in the last four and half years. In 2010, Abu Bakr, a meritorious non-political student of the history department of the University of Dhaka was killed in their infighting. Sharifuzzaman Nomani, a leader of the Rajshahi University Chhatrashibir was killed in 2009 at the brutal attack of Chhatra League. Biswajit Das, a tailor was killed by Chhatra League workers while he was going to his working place. They killed him thinking that he was a worker of the opposition party. The killing took place in front of media. The whole world was horrified to see such a brutality. These are some of the brutalities committed by Chhatra League terrorists in the last four years.
Bangladesh Islami Chhatrashibir protested against the misdeeds of the present government. As a result, Chhatrashibir has become their eyesore. They want to eliminate Chhatrashibir by launching steamroller of oppression against them. The killing spree began with the killing of Sharifuzzaman Nomani, then secretary of Rajshahi University branch. A few days later, another meritorious student Hafizur Rahman Shahin was killed by the police. When the state commits killing, to whom this nation will seek for remedy? Chhatra League slaughtered Hafez Ramzan Ali of Jamalpur and kept his dead body on the rail line to be smashed. The ghouls of Chhatra League killed two meritorious students of Rajshahi University Mahiuddin Masum and Harunur Rashid Kaiser. Two other Shibir leaders Masud bin Habib and Muzahidul Islam Masud were also killed in a joint attack of the police and the Chhatra League. Two Shibir leader Al-Mukaddas and Waliullah suffered enforced disappearance on their way to Dhaka. The law enforcing agency held them from the bus and till now they are out of trace.
The present government formed the so called international crimes tribunal as part of their vengeful politics. Their intention is not to try the real criminals, but to root out the Islamists from the field of politics. The Islam-loving people of Bangladesh did not accept their evil plan. They have protested against the ulterior motive of the government to eliminate the Islamists and ban Islamic politics in the name of trying so called crimes against humanity. The fascist government could not tolerate the democratic protest of the common mass. They resorted to using lethal weapons against the protesters. After the death sentence awarded to Abdul Kader Molla in a farcical trial on February 5, 2013, the protesting common mass took to street. But the law enforcing agencies including the police, the RAB and the BGB inflicted direct firing against the demonstrators at the beckoning of the government. More than 50 innocent persons were killed at the cruel indiscriminate firing. The law enforcing agencies became much more violent on February 28 when the people came out to protest against the death sentence given to internationally recognized Qur’anic scholar Maolana Delawar Hossain sayedee on trumped up charges. More than two hundred people were killed. We cannot understand why the government has become so much greedy of blood. What do they want to achieve through blood-bath. Do they think that they will be able to suppress the legitimate protest of the people by having recourse to excessive blood-shed and merciless massacre? But history bears testimony that whoever you may be, whatever weapons you use against the people, you will neverbe able to contain people’s resistance.
Another example of the government’s atrocity is the incident of Shapla Chattar on the midnight of May 6. Millions of people gathered there to protest against the humiliation of our beloved Prophet (PBUH). Their protest was not against the government, but against the atheist bloggers who were propagating false and fabricated stories against the person of our Prophet (PBUH) in the name of freedom of expression. The protesters demanded their exemplary punishment and anti-blasphemy law to stop such shocking character assassination of our Prophet (PBUH). But the fascist government could not endure such protest. At the dead of night when the protesters tired of the day-long blunt were preparing for sleep, the law enforcing agencies equipped with lethal weapons fell on them like hungry hyenas. It is still a mystery how many people were killed on that night. The Hefazat-e-Islam demanded that as many as 2500 sleeping protesters were killed at that hand of the law enforcing agencies. The preparation of the law enforcing agencies clearly demonstrated that the killings of the Shapla Chattar were pre-planned. Before the crackdown, the electricity supply of Motijheel area was disconnected. Two media who were live telecasting the demonstration of Shapla Chttar from the morning were put out of air. The journalists were not let to function there. In spite of the government’s preparation of conceal the real incident of the Shapla Chattar, the print and electronic media came out with some of the evidences of genocide. Al Jazeera, an influential medium of the world telecast the news of that night with importance. They have claimed that they have videos of genocide committed on that night in their preservation.
But what was the necessity of the crackdown? Why is the firing at the breast of the citizens? How much cruelty and atrocity will we observe? A few days ago, Office secretary of Rajshahi Metropolitan Islami Chhatrashibir Anwarul Islam Masud was made disappeared at the hint of the government. Till now, he is out of trace. Another Shibir worker Shahdat disappeared from Mirpur. After seven days of his disappearance, media circulated the news very exaggeratedly that he had been killed in a gun battle with the RAB in Rajshahi Metropolitan.
As part of their repressive policy, the government is using the judiciary. Both the higher and lower court have been filled with judges who were somehow affiliated with the ruling party. This partisan court is acting as a weapon of the government to suppress the opposition. Whenever the police bring someone in the court to seek for remand, the partisan court grants it without considering the real situation. The remand has become another legal weapon that the police are using to torture the arrested leaders and workers of the opposition parties. According to the criminal law, the police can ask for remand of any arrestee if it is necessary to exact any sensitive or important information. Remand can be used just for close interrogation. The existing laws do not allow any kind of torture in demand. A few years ago, the high court gave some directives on what ground remand can be granted and how the remand can be conducted. But the police are not following any laws or directives. At present in Bangladesh, remand has become synonymous with torture. Even there are evidences of crippling the leaders and workers of the opposition parties by merciless cruel torture. The corrupted police division is also using remand as a means of exacting money from the arrestees and if the arrestees fail to provide money as per demand, they have nothing but to go through the steamroller of inhuman torture. The victims little access to the judiciary to seek for remedy of such state-sponsored cruelty as the politicized partisan court slavishly abides by the orders of the government. Different human rights watchdogs including the Human Rights Watch and the Amnesty International have expressed deep concern over the limited opportunity of the political victims of getting judicial remedy.
The Detective Branch of the Police arrested the central president of Bangladesh Islami Chhatrashibir on March 31, 2013 while he was in his sister’s residence in Shyamoli. Just after arresting, he was taken to the DB office. The police took him on 14-day remand. After 14-day remand he was brought before the court. It was seen that he had become seriously ill because of inhuman torture. Scars of torture were all over his body. The cuticles of his fingers were uprooted. The police again asked for remand. But the court granted 18-day remand without considering his physical condition. Before the ending of this 18-day remand, he was again brought before the court and the court again granted 3-day remand for another charge. So far, the Shibir leader has been shown arrested in 120 cases. The police are making newer and newer cases ready for him. So far, he has been taken on remand for 45 days. On May 17, the administration sought for another 17-day remand.
What do they want to know from the president of Bangladesh Islami Chhatrashibir? They want to know what the source of power of Chhatrashibir is. What is the source of money of Chhatrashibir? We want to tell them that the source of power of Bangladesh Islami Chhatrashibir is Allah. Those who remain in the custody of Allah have nothing to fear. The source of money of Chhatrashibir is the donation of the workers. Chhatrashibir never fears torture. We have before us the examples of the strictness of belief of the companions of our beloved Messenger (sm) of Allah. Uncompromising mujahids like Sayyed Kutub and Joynab al Gazali are our lighthouse of inspiration. We believe that man can be destroyed, but there is no death of ideology. Hazrat Muhammad (sm) is our everlasting ideal; the holy Qur’an is our constitution. Our struggle is not just for the present moment, but our struggle is eternal.
Bangladesh Islami Chhatrashibir Believe in democracy. They want to keep faith on people’s power. The people are now fed up with the maladministration of the present government. They want to be free from the evil rule of Awami League. Bangladesh Islami Chhatrashibir will continue protesting the misdeeds of the government with the support of the people. They know this path is thorny. But keeping faith in Allah, Bangladesh Islami Chhatrashibir will go on with their mission of establishing Islam in every sector of the society through democratic process.
