There is no alternative to planting trees to preserve natural and environmental balance - Shibir president
Yasin Arafat, the central president of Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir, said that Bangladesh is facing the threats of natural calamity, which has already become a terrible problem. It is only possible to prevent this disaster by planting a lot of trees. To avoid harming the environment and making it green and beautiful, more trees should be planted. This will also benefit the country financially as well as protect the environment. There is no alternative to planting trees to protect the natural and environmental balance.
He said these things during the inauguration of 'Planting Campaign-2018' initiative by Chhatra Shibir in the capital today. The program was inaugurated at 9 am by planting and dispatching the plant. Central Office Secretary Sirajul Islam, Central Social Services Secretary Abdul Jalil Akand, central executive council member Jamil Mahmud, Dhaka Metropolitan Northern President Azizul Islam Sajib and various leaders of the center and city were present.
Urging all to make the program a success, the Shibir President said that adequate forestation is very important to protect the natural and environmental balance of a country. But the country's forest area is only 17%, where there is a need for 25 percent. The rich wealth of the country is being threatened by the planned destruction of the Sundarbans. The remaining forests are decreasing every day due to continuous takeover of forest land by the government and the destruction of forests arbitrarily by the govt. party. The forest area is declining all over the world. As a result, environmental disasters are happening all over the world. More dangerously, Bangladesh is among the foremost countries which are being environmentally threatened by climate change. Even then the government is not giving much attention to this. Trees are not being planted at the rate at which they are being cut. As a result, there are huge changes in the weather every year. Due to climate change, Bangladesh has to face the worst natural disaster every year. To reduce the damage due to these natural disasters, more trees should be planted.
He also said that the country belongs to all of us. We are all recipients of this loss. So all of us have to work together to protect the country. Even in the face of hostilities to Shibir, the national responsibility is never forgotten. Shibir is running various social welfare programs, including helping the poor meritorious students, reception of meritorious students, standing beside the helpless people and homeless children, distributing warm clothes, and protecting the environment. Sadly however, in doing these welfare activities, Shibir has always faced problems from the side of the government. But we have continued our activities and will keep them up insha Allah. We urge the people of the country, including the government to cooperate in the constructive work of Chhatra Shibir for the welfare of the society and the country.
It is to be noted that a week-long plantation program will be celebrated from July 11 to July 17, 2018. In particular, on July 13, at around 10 am, 1 lakh seedlings will be planted throughout the country. The following programs have been adopted to make the program successful.
