শাহাদাতের ঘটনা

In 1985, Sri Chandmal Chopra, advocate of Calcutta High Court, Sri Hamangshu Kumar Chakraborthy and Sri Sital Singh filed an application in the Calcutta High Court under Article 226 of the Constitution

of India on 29 March, 1985, praying for a Writ of Mandamus directing the State of West Bengal to declare each copy of the Quran, whether in the original Arabic or in its translation in any of the languages, as forfeited to the government. This led to widespread protests throughout the Muslim world. In Bangladesh, the lead role in organising protests was played by Bangladesh Islami Chatra shibir. On 11 May, 1985, countrywide protests were organised. At one such protest at Chapainawabganj, anti-Quran magistrate Wahiduzzaman Molla ordered police to fire upon the crowds. Eight people instantly died on spot. Other than the 5 Shibir activists who died that day, 3 more people from the general masses also were martyred, (1) Shaheed Altafur Rahman (farmer) (2) Shaheed Mokhtar Hossain (Rickshaw driver) (3) Shaheed Nazrul Islam (Railway worker)

(1) Shaheed Abdul Matin, an associate-candiate and student of Standard 10 student of Kashempur A.K. Fazlul Haq Higher secondary School. From Dariapur, Chowhodditola, Nawabganj. (2) Shaheed Rashidul Haque was a 10th grade student of Namoshankarabati High School. He was from Namoshankarabati, Chapainawabganj. (3) Shaheed Sheikh Mohammad was a supporter and student of 9th grade of Nawabganj Alia Madrasa. He hailed from Shahbazpur, Kansat of Shibganj district. (4) Shaheed Mohammad Selim, a student of 8th grade of Shankarbati High School, was a supporter of Shibir. He hailed from Arambagh, Rajarampur, Nawabganj. (5) Shaheed Shahabuddin, a supporter, was a 6th grade student of Haripur 1 no. High School. His house is at Rajarampur of Nawabganj district.

This incident of martyrdom proves that the people, along with Chhatra Shibir also became increasingly vigilant on the day to defend the Qur'an.
