Speech of honourable Central President on occasion of anniversary

Assalamu alaikum

Welcoming speech

Alhamdulillah. I thank Allah Subhānahu Wa Ta’āla and bow my head in front of Him, who has guided Chhatra Shibir to successfully set its feet into its 40th anniversary. I send my praise and salam upon his Prophet (SAW), whose exemplary life is emulated by Chhatra Shibir through its activities and vision. I also seek Allah’s forgiveness and utmost blessings for the 234 martyrs of Chhatra Shibir, alongside all those martyrs who gave their lives for Allah throughout the history of Islam.

Today is February 6, the 40th anniversary of Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir. This organisation has a proud history today, a result of a legacy accumulated throughout the past 39 years, after it began its journey on this day in 1977 from the Central Jaame Masjid of Dhaka University. Chhatra Shibir has set for itself a permanent place in the hearts of the public and hundreds of thousands of youth, due to its constructive progress as a student organisation, a unique informal educational institution, and a workshop for developing people. On this auspicious anniversary day, I congratulate all the people of the country, including all students, teachers and intellectual well-wishers.

Just like no historical event happens without a historical context, no organisation is born without any need. The establishment of Bangladesh Islami Chhatra shibir was the need of the hour at the time. The socio-economic, social, religious, political and cultural situation of the time in Bangladesh made the creation of this organisation a necessity. The announcement of the formation of Bangladesh Islamic Chhatra Shibir – it was like a ray of sunshine in impenetrable darkness; hope amidst sadness and depression. Islami Chhatra Shibir was born at a crucial time, when the education system was on the verge of destruction in the unflinching grip of amoral student politics, when the forces of evil had completed all preparations to destroy the youth of this country, when these forces of evil, with their black grip, had been destroying the Islamic culture, tradition and civilizational identity of this nation. In this environment of deep-seated darkness, Chhatra Shibir brought hope and the new light of possibility to everybody. Within a short time, Shibir transformed into the singlemost popular caravan for the Islam loving students of the country. It was like a ray of light amidst the darkness.

Chhatra Shibir has been calling the student community benevolently towards the Path of Allah, creating an organisation with strong bonding and brotherhood like a ‘solid wall’, transforming the knowledge base, human character and character traits of the organised students into glorious beautiful human beings, helping students attain their rights and career guidance, aiding them in their fight against injustice and oppression, all of which has made Chhatra Shibir into the largest student organisation in the country. In order to foster merit from the worker base, Chhatra Shibir organises quiz competitions, merit quests, career guideline programs, science fairs, general knowledge quizzes, scholarship exams and sports competitions. Moreover, Shibir also organises inter-school, inter-college debates. Such activities by Shibir not only invigorates meritorious teens, but also helps in bringing out in them the leadership needed for the future of the country.

Shibir, right after it began its journey, was subject to enmity on part of the establishment and vested interests. A group bothered itself with the sole tasks of painting Shibir as the enemy, spreading falsehoods against Shibir leaders and activists, physically attacking Shibir programmes, leading efforts to have Shibir banned, ensnaring activists and leaders in legal cases personally and in group format, and the killing of Shibir activists secretly and publicly. Till date, 234 young Shibir activists have attained martyrdom at the hands of the forces of evil. At the same time, hundreds of Shibir activists have been injured and disa

bled. Their only crime (!) is that they have professed faith and belief in Allah. Through their lives, they have professed the truth of the Shahada; they have become disabled and crippled, yet they did not compromise with the forces of evil, they have found the value of life in this struggle. Shibir has not stepped back one hair from its goal of nation building and the establishment of Islam.

Chhatrashibir is the name of a revolutionary caravan, which has protested injustice and oppression wherever it has seen it. Shibir has kept up the protest against irregularities and exploitation in the country. The political insecurity of the country, the lack of democracy, absence of basic rights, surge in terrorism and discrimination against minorities have made Shibir more relevant than ever before. When most of the student society is involved in crimes like extortion, murder, rape, drug trade and question paper leaks, Shibir is working relentlessly to fulfil the dream of building a prosperous Bangladesh. Chhatra Shibir has a huge Islamic literary collection which is awakening the young minds of the youth through study, day by day.

Chhatra Shibir has become the hope of the student movement through its positive actions. In our eyes we hold today the dream of a prosperous Bangladesh. It is our desire to move forward with the great ideology of Islam in our hearts. Shibir has begun a positive transformation of this morally lacking decaying society. This drive has brought hundreds of thousands of youth under the umbrella of Shibir, and it is the favourite address of their freedom. On this 41st anniversary I send greetings to all my student friends, well wishers and countrymen. In this light, I would like to end with this,

We have come to chase the darkness, we have no fear,
We will go forward to establish the Deen, victory will be for Truth.

Allah Hafiz, Bangladesh Zindabad,
Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Dhibir Zindabad.
