Concerted efforts should be made to ease the sufferings of the victims

Yasin Arafat, the central president of Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir, said that winter every year causes unlimited suffering for the poor helpless people. But it is not impossible to remove this suffering. It is possible to ease the sufferings of these poor people, through a collective effort. Combined efforts should be made to ease the sufferings of the victims.

He said these words at the auditorium of the capital today as the chief guest at a program by Shibir to distribute winter clothes among the poor and the helpless. Central Literature Secretary Shah Mahfuzul Haque conducted the program, and others present included Secretary General Mobarak Hossain, Central Science Secretary Rashedul Islam, and College Secretary Mareful Islam.

Shibir president said, the conditions in Bangladesh are not pleasant in winter. Every year, a large part of the population suffers from cold in the winter. It is the responsibility of the government is to ease the sufferings of the people, but the government glosses over the sufferings of these poor helpless people. But just looking at government inaction, others should not sit back. Bangladesh is a Muslim-majority country. It is the responsibility of every Muslim to extend his hand to another brother in his distress. It is necessary for the rich to extend their help and sympathy for the poor, by sufficiently providing warm clothes and standing beside them in this cold season. Human religion is helping and aiding people who are in danger in a selfless manner. This great and glorious work is the best worship. If all the people of the society stand beside the cold-affected people besides them, according to their ability, it would have been easy to ease winter hardship. That is also our expectation. In spite of having the ability and the opportunity, ignoring the poor is a very inhuman and irresponsible deed. We hope that in the winter of this year, people from all walks will stand beside the cold-affected people and set an example of brotherhood and humanity.

Shibir president said Bangladesh is one of the world's most disaster-prone countries. The people of this country have historically faced and survived many natural disasters. The traditional way of people living here is to both save oneself as well as help others survive. In this spirit, Islami Chhatra Shibir has played a courageous, liberal and responsible role during such crises.

Due to its responsibility to the society, Shibir has announced a 14-day long winter-clothes distribution drive like every year. We hope that this program will remove the obstacles faced by the poor during winter, and encourage others in the society to participate in this great work.

It is notable that Chhatra Shibir has taken a fortnightly program this year, like every year to stand beside the cold-affected people.

The program will include every member distributing at least one piece of warm clothing, distributing warm clothes among the helpless and poor students, distributing clothes to the slums, railway stations and students in flood-affected areas, distribution of warm clothes to orphans, street children, smash and helpless people. Advise the well-off people upon distributing warm clothes to the poor for the well-being of the society as well.
