Chhatrashibir mourns tragic blast at Narayanganj mosque
Bangladesh Islami Chhatrashibir has expressed deep shock and grief over the tragic accident of blast at a mosque in Narayanganj
In a joint condolence message, Central President of Chhatrashibir Md. Sirajul Islam and Secretary General Salahuddin Ayoubi said that it was learned that a horrific explosion related to a AC cooling unit took place at Baitus Salat Jame Mosque in West Tollah area of Fatullah in Narayanganj Sadar Upazila at around 8.45 pm on Friday. About 45 people, including the imam, muezzin, a photo journalist and an employee of the district administration were severely burnt. Twelve people, including the muezzin and a child, have already died. The condition of the rest is also critical, doctors said. The whole nation is deeply saddened and stunned by this tragic accident. We are shocked by such a tragic incident. The explosion was initially thought to have been caused by residue of gas leaking from numerous leaks in the gas line below the mosque. The mosque committee told the media that the Titas authorities did not work for just Tk 50,000, even though a written complaint had been lodged for repairing the gas line leak nine months ago. So the concerned authorities are directly responsible for this tragic accident.
The leaders said that such incidents had occurred as well before this, due to the negligence of such responsibilities, as a result of which gas lines have exploded in various places, causing extensive loss of life and property. But this tragic incident was repeated as the concerned authorities and the government did not take effective action in these cases. So without further ado, the government should take effective steps to make the gas transmission line across the country as safe as possible. Titas officials who neglected their duties should be arrested and face exemplary punishment.
We urge the government to take immediate and effective steps to prevent such accidents and to provide adequate compensation to the families of those killed and injured. At the same time, we urge the people of all walks of life, including the leaders and workers of Chhatrashibir, to come forward to help the victims of the accident as much as possible. We seek forgiveness to the Almighty for the souls of those killed in the blast and extend our deepest condolences to their bereaved families. We are praying to Allah for the immediate recovery of those who are undergoing treatment.
