Chhatra Shibir statement demanding postponement of upcoming HSC and equivalent examinations

Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir has issued a statement demanding the postponement of HSC and equivalent examinations to be held on April 1.
In a joint statement, Chhatra Shibir Central President Md. Sirajul Islam and Secretary General Salahuddin Ayubi said that the corona virus has taken the form of a pandemic in different countries of the world. Corona virus has already spread in 173 countries including Bangladesh. According to the World Health Organization, Bangladesh is at high risk of coronavirus infections. According to experts, the upcoming two weeks will be the peak time for Bangladesh. God forbid, there is huge risk of the Corona virus spreading across the country at the moment. Meanwhile, the World Health Organization (WHO) has advised Bangladesh to declare a lockdown and emergency situation in the wake of the outbreak of coronavirus yesterday (March 21). On the other hand, even in such dire circumstances, the people are deeply concerned over the government's apathy, mismanagement and outlandish attitude of ministers and MPs. This is despite Bangladesh getting three months time after the first Corona virus first spread from Wuhan in China. But with no such preparations taken, the government has shown extreme irresponsibility. Now they say that they are preparing the hospital, and will be providing ICU services. These preparations are in a bad state as well, as all are seeing due to the welfare of the media. From the beginning, it was known that there were no corona detection kits in the country, hospitals were not ready, doctors were said to have no safety equipment. The government did not listen to any experts from home or abroad. God forbid, its the people who will have to pay the horrible price of this irresponsible behaviour. In this situation, it is not safe to conduct HSC and equivalent examinations for millions of students.
The leaders said the HSC and equivalent tests are undoubtedly important for every student. Chhatra Shibir always wants the examinations to be done at the specified time, that education activities keep on going well and that is what is expected from the students as well. But it is not more valuable than life itself. It is not impossible to take the test at a later appropriate date. HSC, Alim and equivalent examinees are going through important times in their lives. They are the future of the country. The lives of teachers and everyone involved with the exams are valuable. Under the circumstances of the outbreak of the Corona virus, SSC and equivalent examinations will put these precious lives at risk, which is undesirable.
In view of the reality, the educational institutions have already been closed. Control has been imposed on the management of various institutions. Traffic has been stopped and restricted in various parts of the country. Due to the ongoing difficult reality, taking part in the exam on April 1 will not be realistic. Because the printed question will be handed over to the students after the change of many hands, it is not uncommon to have a person infected with the virus at any stage of this change. A study by a team of Chinese epidemiologists in China found that the virus can survive on glass, cloth, metal, plastic and paper for about 2-3 days at a temperature of about 67 degrees Celsius. Therefore, there is a possibility of spreading the virus through question paper. And if that happens, a horrible situation will result from it. Moreover, there is no proper mechanism to ascertain whether a student is suffering from corona virus. If someone is infected, other students can easily get infected in the test classrooms, test centers and vehicles while traveling. In that case the level of virus infection will increase. As a result, the lives of millions of students, teachers and the people who assist them while taking the tests and their families through them will fall under huge risk.
The leaders also said it would be difficult for students to achieve good results by participating in

exams across the country with the hype around the corona virus. If their test results are bad, then their lifelong dreams will be shattered. In this situation, the countrymen do not think there is any justification for taking risks that could endanger the life of the students. Therefore, we urge the government to postpone the date of the upcoming HSC and equivalent examination to the nearest safest date in the aftermath of normalization from the corona situation. At the same time, we urge the government to take effective steps to deal with the dire situation of Corona virus pandemic.
