Chhatrashibir's statement demanding knowledge of whereabouts of missing Shibir activist Rezwan Hussain arrested 5 years ago by law enforcement

Bangladesh Islami Chhatrashibir has issued a statement demanding for knowledge of whereabouts of Shibir activist Rezwan Hussain, who was arrested by law enforcement from Benapole in Jessore on August 4, 2016.

In a joint statement, Salahuddin Ayoubi, Central President of Islami Chhatrashibir, and Rashedul Islam, Secretary General, said the law enforcers were showing extreme irresponsibility and inhumanity in the case of Shibir activist Rezwan Hussain. Rezwan, a Shibir activist, was arrested five years ago on August 4, 2016 at 12 o'clock noon from Durgapur Bazar near Benapole Port without any reason. When his family members contacted the police station, the police denied any knowledge of arresting him. Statements were issued more than once by Chhatrashibir demanding knowledge of his whereabouts. Family members have repeatedly met with law enforcement, but so far they have not given any information about him or brought him in front of a court. However, he was arrested in broad daylight in the presence of S.I. Nur Alam of Benapole Port Police Station in front of a large number of people including shop owners and employees. We then learned from reliable sources that Rezwan was kept in DB custody in Dhaka. Many attempts have been made by the organization and the family to find him at various levels of the law enforcement agencies. But even after 5 long years, the law enforcement agencies have not admitted to arresting them till date. By repeatedly ignoring the issue, it is proven that the administration have kept Rezwan Hussain in hiding. But his parents are still waiting for the return of their child. Classmates are waiting for his return. In similar cases, no trace of numerous opposition leaders and activists like Waliullah and Mukaddas, meritorious students of the Islamic University, have been found, after being arrested by the law enforcement agencies. It is unthinkable that the meritorious students in an independent sovereign country would disappear at the hands of the law enforcement agencies in such a manner. It cannot be a reflection of any civilized state system.

The leaders said that like everyone else, Rezwan Hussain is also a citizen of this country. He has a constitutional right to a fair trial. But the sad thing is that the custodians of the law themselves have kept this meritorious student hidden by illegal means. In a civilized society, such tragic behavior cannot be imagined. Despite all this, we firmly believe that Rezwan Hussain is safe with the law enforcement agencies. His whereabouts need to be revealed immediately. Otherwise, the people of the country will lose confidence in the law enforcement agencies. We hope that law enforcement will return Rezwan Hussain to his parents, showing respect to their oaths and uniform.

The leaders called on the government to put an end to this inhumanity and to release all the 'missing' students including Rezwan Hussain, and put an immediate stop to disappearances and killings.
